Unfortunately, I missed the original heydays of pinball in the 1970s and 1990s - so I am making up for it today!
My first introduction to pinball was through pinball emulation games on the PC over 10 years ago. This was fun, but digital emulation wasn't enough; I had to play the real thing.
I visited a few locations near me that had pinball machines to play. Unfortunately, playing them was a lot less fun than I had hoped. Most of them were poorly maintained. So, I decided to purchase one and maintain it myself. Our first machine was a Williams Demolition Man from 1994. It was in poor shape. Knowing next to nothing about pinball machines or how they work, Fiona and I dove right into restoring it. It turned out to be a lot of fun and we learned a lot about pinball along the way. Our collection began to grow pretty rapidly after that, with machine pickups all over NSW, including a 16-hour road trip to buy a bulk lot of eight games!
Since then, we have been repairing and playing pinball machines almost non-stop. Nothing feels better than restoring a game to its former glory and playing the heck out of it. And now we want to share our love of pinball with the wider community and introduce a new generation of players to the fun, social and inclusive game that is pinball, which anyone can enjoy. That's what pinball is all about!
We cannot wait to share our love of pinball with the community at TCXPO.
